Club Solo puts the artist’s work at the centre by organising solo shows. Curators of the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven and the museum of Contemporary Art in Antwerp respond to the artist’s work by adding a specific contribution from their own collection to the exhibition. For this showselected the work ‘Forte!’ by Mark Lewis to be shown in relation to the work of Wesley Meuris.
‘Looking at and talking about the work of Wesley Meuris, and certainly after the studio visit in Belgium, it became increasingly clear to us that Wesley Meuris’ work reflects on the ‘mechanisms’ of art – exhibition architecture, posters, models of auditoriums, ground plans – as technologies that can glue reality and fiction together. With his thorough archival research into architectural forms and used “language” in the design of posters of museum activities and exhibitions he has become an expert on this specific “use”. This gives him the opportunity to analyze the distinctive methods in art and even to deconstruct them. He replaces them by architectural models stripped to their essence, meticulous ground plans and fictional museum expressions.’ (The concentrated eye – Diana Franssen, Steven ten Thije)
